Yes, Episode 12 revealed Meili as the Pleiades Watchtower Pusher. But fans don't buy that it was 100% her choice.
The big question: "Why did she try to kill Subaru now and not earlier?". The answer we got was "something in their conversation the previous night changed her mind." But we never saw that conversation.
The Conspiracy angle: What if Meili was being nudged by a Witch Factor? Before this, people thought it was Rem being controlled by Satella. Others point to the mistranslated line about "Envy Witch Factor" vs "Sloth Witch Factor".
Theory: Petelgeuse's remnants, or even the Sloth Witch Factor itself, used Meili's beast-taming to test Subaru. Meili is young and impressionable — perfect for a puppet. The goal wasn't to kill Subaru permanently. It was to force a Return by Death at the Watchtower so someone else could watch what happens inside.
If true, that means the real mastermind is still inside the tower, and Meili will get scapegoated for it.
