Could the Season 4 Events Be Part of a Much Bigger Witch Cult Puzzle?
Some of the apparently disconnected events in Season 4 may eventually prove to be pieces of a larger Witch Cult-related plan.
This theory begins with something fundamental about Re:ZERO: major events rarely exist in isolation. Characters and organizations introduced in one part of the story can become relevant much later. The official material itself shows how the story continues expanding its mysteries around the Witch Cult, royal selection, and supernatural powers. The author has also repeatedly answered questions about characters and settings that connect different arcs together.
The theory proposes that Season 4 could therefore be planting information that looks relatively disconnected at first but becomes meaningful when viewed alongside the larger mythology.
One possibility fans have discussed is that the Witch Cult's apparent chaos hides a much more complicated structure. Different Sin Archbishops have radically different personalities, abilities and goals, yet their powers often interact with fundamental concepts such as memory, identity, bodies, names, emotions and relationships. That raises the possibility that the Witch Cult's abilities are not random supernatural gimmicks but pieces of a larger system.
Imagine, for example, that certain Witch Factors affect different aspects of a person's existence. One ability might interfere with memory. Another could manipulate identity or appearance. Another could affect relationships or emotional states. If these powers were somehow connected, the Witch Cult could theoretically threaten a person's existence without simply killing them.
This would fit one of Re:ZERO's favorite storytelling tricks: making something horrifying not because a character dies, but because the meaning of that character's existence changes.
The theory becomes even more interesting because Season 4's story is already dealing with unusual situations involving identity and memory. Official Q&A material confirms that the author and anime staff specifically considered how characters would react when Subaru's identity becomes inaccessible to them.
That does not prove a secret Witch Cult master plan. But it gives fans something substantial to analyze.
There is also a broader reason to suspect that seemingly minor details could matter later. The author has previously explained that information about the world and future developments was shared with the anime staff even during the production of the first season so that the anime could properly portray the setting and characters. This means fans have good reason to pay attention to recurring details rather than automatically treating every strange element as decoration.
The wildest version of this theory is that Season 4 is not merely telling a story about Subaru surviving another crisis. It could be gradually revealing how the supernatural rules of the world actually work, with the Witch Cult serving as one of the mechanisms through which those rules become visible.
That would make seemingly strange abilities, mysterious characters and unusual reactions much more significant on a second viewing.
Still, there is no official confirmation that the Witch Cult is secretly orchestrating every major Season 4 event. For now, this remains an attractive fan theory rather than established canon.
