Why Do Some Pokémon Stop Evolving in FireRed and LeafGreen?
Seeing a Pokémon reach the level where you expect it to evolve only for nothing to happen can be confusing. In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, evolution normally happens automatically when a Pokémon reaches the required condition, but there are several reasons why an expected evolution might not occur.
Understanding these situations can prevent you from thinking that your game is broken.
The Most Common Reason: You Pressed B
If you press the B button during an evolution sequence, the evolution is canceled.
The Pokémon remains in its current form and can attempt to evolve again the next time it reaches an appropriate evolution condition.
This can happen accidentally, particularly when a player is trying to press buttons quickly during gameplay.
If your Pokémon suddenly stops evolving, check whether the evolution animation was interrupted.
Some Pokémon Do Not Evolve by Level
Not every Pokémon evolves simply by reaching a certain level.
Some Pokémon require Evolution Stones.
Others evolve through trading.
There are also Pokémon with special evolution conditions involving friendship, time, or other mechanics in different Pokémon generations.
FireRed and LeafGreen therefore require you to know the specific evolution method for the species you are using.

This is especially relevant for Pokémon that have different level-up move lists in their evolutionary stages.
So an unevolved Pokémon is not necessarily a problem.
Sometimes it is an intentional part of a player's training strategy.
Check the Evolution Method Before Training for Hours
Suppose you have a Pokémon at level 30 and you expected it to evolve at level 25.
Instead of continuing to level it indefinitely, check its evolution method.
If it requires a stone, you need the stone.

If your Pokémon does not evolve when you expect, check three basic possibilities first: was the evolution canceled, does the Pokémon require a special evolution method, or does it simply have no further evolution?
