How to Fix the "No Way to Enter" Problem in Baldur's Gate 3

One of the easiest ways to get stuck in Baldur's Gate 3 is encountering a locked or inaccessible area and assuming that there must be a specific key somewhere nearby.

Sometimes there is a key. But very often, there isn't.

If you encounter a locked door, start by examining the door itself. If it can be lockpicked, a character with Sleight of Hand proficiency can attempt to open it. Make sure you have thieves' tools available, because having the appropriate character isn't enough if the required tools are missing.

If lockpicking fails, don't immediately reload your save. Try looking around the building for another entrance. Windows, ladders, balconies, underground passages, and breakable walls can sometimes provide alternative routes.

Jumping is also surprisingly important. A balcony that looks inaccessible from ground level may be reachable with the Jump action, particularly if you have enough movement available.

Spells can provide even more options. Depending on your party and available spell slots, abilities such as Misty Step or other movement-related magic can allow characters to bypass obstacles that would otherwise require a conventional route.

Another common problem involves doors that are not technically locked but cannot be opened because something is blocking them. In these situations, switch to a character with greater Strength or use environmental interactions. Objects can sometimes be moved or destroyed.

If the obstacle is actually a quest progression problem, speak with nearby NPCs again. Baldur's Gate 3 frequently changes available dialogue after important events, and an NPC who previously refused to help may have new information after you complete another part of the quest.

Most importantly, don't assume that failure means the quest is broken. A failed conversation check, unsuccessful lockpick, or unexpected combat encounter can create a different path forward.

The best way to fix a stuck point in Baldur's Gate 3 is therefore to think like the game does: don't ask, "What key am I supposed to find?" Ask, "What other ways could my party possibly solve this problem?"
