In the second half of Season 4, Subaru wakes up in the Watchtower with no memories, no name, and hostility toward his friends. Anime-only viewers think it's amnesia. Light novel readers know better.

The fan conspiracy: The Corridor of Memories, the trial of the Pleiades Watchtower, isn't testing Subaru. It's farming him.

Each time Subaru dies inside the tower, the tower copies his memories to fill its library. The "Shaula" we see isn't the real sage's apprentice, but a security program designed to keep looping intruders until their minds are blank enough to become new books.
