Understanding Let's Go Mode: A Smarter Way to Explore Paldea

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduced several changes to the traditional Pokémon formula, and one of the most convenient is Let's Go mode. Instead of entering a conventional turn-based battle every time you want to defeat a wild Pokémon, you can send a Pokémon from your party out to battle automatically while you continue exploring.

This feature can save time, help you collect materials, and make certain training activities more convenient. However, it has limitations that players should understand before relying on it too heavily.

What Is Let's Go Mode?

Let's Go mode allows you to send the first Pokémon in your party out into the overworld. That Pokémon can move around nearby areas, pick up items, and automatically battle certain wild Pokémon.

To activate the feature, use the Let's Go command while exploring. Your Pokémon will leave its Poké Ball and follow your instructions within the limits of the mode.

Unlike an ordinary battle, these automatic battles do not require you to choose a move every turn. The game resolves the encounters based on factors such as the Pokémon's strength and the matchup.

This makes the feature useful when you want to defeat weaker wild Pokémon without interrupting your exploration repeatedly.

How Does It Help You Collect Materials?

One of the most important uses of Let's Go mode is collecting materials from wild Pokémon.

In Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon materials are used for crafting TMs at Pokémon Centers. Different Pokémon species provide different materials, so collecting the right ones is an important part of learning new moves.

For example, if you want to craft a particular TM, you may need materials associated with specific Pokémon species. Finding those Pokémon and defeating them can help you gather what you need.

Let's Go mode makes this process more convenient because you can send your Pokémon to battle suitable wild targets while you remain in the overworld.

However, you should still check which materials a particular Pokémon provides. Defeating random species may not produce the ingredients required for the TM you want.

Does Let's Go Mode Replace Traditional Battles?

No. Let's Go mode is useful, but it does not replace the normal battle system.

Automatic battles do not provide the same level of direct control as turn-based combat. You cannot select a particular move for every encounter, carefully manage every turn, or use the same tactical approach that you would in a regular battle.

This means that traditional battles remain preferable when you need precise control over the outcome.

For example, if you are trying to catch a Pokémon, you generally want to enter a regular battle rather than accidentally defeat it through an automatic encounter.

Let's Go mode is better suited to defeating appropriate wild Pokémon and gathering materials than to carefully weakening a rare target for capture.

Can You Use It to Level Up Your Pokémon?

Yes. Let's Go mode can provide experience and help your Pokémon develop while you explore. It can be a convenient way to defeat weaker opponents and earn experience without entering a traditional battle each time.

However, you should not assume that every automatic battle will be successful or equally rewarding.

A Pokémon that is too weak for the surrounding area may struggle against wild opponents. If your Pokémon repeatedly loses automatic battles, consider moving to a lower-level area or switching to a stronger Pokémon.

You should also remember that automatic battles do not replace all other training methods. Regular battles, Trainer battles, and other experience sources remain useful, especially when preparing for more difficult encounters.

Why Does My Pokémon Sometimes Refuse to Battle Automatically?

Let's Go mode has limitations involving which Pokémon you target and the circumstances of the encounter. Your Pokémon may fail to defeat an opponent if the matchup is unfavorable or the target is not suitable for its current capabilities.

This does not necessarily mean that the feature is malfunctioning.

Try sending your Pokémon against a weaker wild Pokémon first. If the automatic battle succeeds consistently, you can gradually test stronger opponents.

Pay attention to type matchups as well. A Pokémon with a favorable type advantage may handle certain wild encounters much more efficiently than one that struggles against the opponent's typing.

Does Walking With Your Pokémon Have Other Benefits?

Having your Pokémon outside its Poké Ball makes the world feel more interactive. You can see your partner moving around Paldea rather than remaining hidden in the party menu until a battle begins.

This is particularly enjoyable for players who have favorite Pokémon they want to see alongside their character.

The feature also complements the open-world structure. You can explore paths, visit settlements, search for items, and interact with the environment while your Pokémon accompanies you.

Although the main practical benefit is automatic battling, the system also contributes to the feeling that you are traveling through Paldea with a team rather than simply selecting Pokémon from a menu.

When Should You Avoid Let's Go Mode?

Avoid relying on it when you need to catch a specific Pokémon, when you are facing opponents that are too strong, or when you need precise control over battle decisions.

It is also worth paying attention to the Pokémon you send out. Your first party member may not be the best choice for every environment.

If you are gathering materials from Pokémon with particular types, choosing a suitable partner can make the process smoother.

A Practical Routine for Material Farming

Start by identifying the TM you want to craft. Check its required materials, then determine which Pokémon provide those materials.

Travel to an area where those Pokémon appear. Send out a Pokémon that can handle them reliably, and use Let's Go mode to defeat suitable targets.

Collect the materials and check your inventory periodically. Once you have enough ingredients, return to a Pokémon Center and craft the TM.

This approach is more efficient than defeating every wild Pokémon you encounter without knowing whether its materials are useful.

The Main Lesson

Let's Go mode is best understood as a convenience feature rather than a replacement for traditional Pokémon battles.

It helps you explore, defeat weaker wild Pokémon, gain experience, and collect materials for crafting TMs. At the same time, it offers less control than the normal battle system, so you should switch back to traditional battles whenever precision matters.

Once you understand what the feature can and cannot do, it becomes an excellent part of your Paldea adventure. Whether you are preparing a new moveset or simply collecting materials while traveling between destinations, Let's Go mode can make everyday gameplay more comfortable.
