How to Get Unstuck in Starfield When Your Ship Won't Reach the Quest Location

Starfield can occasionally make players feel stuck when a quest sends them toward another system or planet but the expected travel option doesn't seem to work. The problem is often related to the game's travel and grav-jump requirements rather than the quest itself being broken.

First, open the Starmap and check exactly where the quest objective is located. The galaxy map, system map, and planet-level locations represent different stages of navigation. If you are looking at the wrong map layer, the destination can appear more complicated than it really is.

If your ship cannot jump directly to the destination, check whether the route requires passing through another system. Some destinations are outside your ship's current jump range. In that case, you need to make the journey through intermediate systems.

Fuel and Grav Drive capability are also important considerations. Your ship's available systems determine how far it can travel in a single jump. If the game will not allow the jump, examine the route rather than repeatedly trying the same destination.

Another common source of confusion is the quest marker itself. A quest may point toward a planet or system, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should manually fly toward the marker from wherever you currently are. Selecting the destination through the Starmap and using the appropriate travel option is generally much easier.

If the destination is on a planet, remember that orbital travel and surface exploration are separate stages. You first need to reach the appropriate system and planet, then select a landing location. Once you land, the objective marker becomes relevant to your surface exploration.

If you arrive at the correct planet but cannot find the objective, open the scanner. Quest-related locations can become much easier to identify when the scanner highlights nearby points of interest.

Finally, check whether another quest is currently active. If you have several missions selected, it is surprisingly easy to follow the wrong marker and conclude that the game is sending you somewhere strange.

The solution to most "my ship can't get there" problems is therefore to work backward through the navigation system: quest objective → planet → star system → route → Grav Jump range. Once you identify which layer is causing the problem, the destination usually becomes much easier to reach.
