By this point, viewers already understand that Subaru is not a straightforward hero. He can be brave and cowardly, generous and selfish, determined and emotionally exhausted. Yet there is one characteristic that makes him particularly mysterious: his ability to keep presenting himself as someone who can move forward even when he is carrying enormous psychological pressure.

Subaru's most mysterious characteristic is arguably the enormous difference between what he shows other people and what he actually experiences internally.

From the outside, Subaru can sometimes look almost unbelievably determined. He repeatedly enters dangerous situations, tries to protect people, and continues searching for solutions when circumstances appear impossible. But the audience knows that this determination comes with a cost that most of the characters around him cannot fully understand.

This creates a fascinating contradiction. Subaru often looks like the person who refuses to give up, but he is not someone who naturally possesses unlimited courage. In fact, some of the most important parts of his character come from the fact that he experiences fear very intensely.
