Beginner’s Guide to Fortress Saga: AFK RPG

The Rolling Fortress: A Beginner’s Guide to Starting Fortress Saga: AFK RPG

Welcome to Fortress Saga: AFK RPG, a casual and fast-paced game where you build a moving fortress, collect heroes, and watch your power grow even while you’re offline. If you’ve just started and are wondering what to focus on first, this guide will walk you through the fundamentals of building a powerful team and making the most of your resources.

There isn’t a complex story to spoil (thought you can watch in-game story video for rewards)—your adventure is about upgrading your fortress, conquering dungeons, and watching your heroes grow stronger over time.

The Core Loop: AFK Progression & Summoning

Fortress Saga is an idle game, meaning your heroes continue to battle and earn rewards even when you’re not playing. You’ll earn gold, gems, and other resources by clearing stages, completing quests, and claiming AFK rewards.

The key to progress is summoning. You’ll earn summon tickets to recruit new heroes and upgrade parts of your fortress like cannons and repair carts. The game moves quickly, so it’s often a good idea to use your summon tickets and invest in your heroes rather than hoarding them.

Fortress & Heroes

Your focus should be on two main areas: the fortress itself and your heroes.

Fortress Upgrades

Expanding your fortress is a priority, as it allows you to deploy more heroes in battle. You also need to pay attention to Facilities, which are unlocked as you progress. These buildings produce level-up materials and provide buffs, making them a great long-term investment.

Hero Enhancement

When you summon a duplicate hero, you can fuse them to “enhance” the original. This strengthens their stats and increases their max level. Enhancements are what turn a good hero into a great one.

How to Spend Your Resources Wisely

Gems

Gems are a premium currency. You can get them from quests, events, and especially from the Arena. The Arena is a major source of gems, as you get a large reward every time you reach a new rank—and those rewards reset weekly!.

Here’s what to spend your gems on:

  • Wandering Merchant: This is a must. This event appears four times a day, and it offers exclusive rewards. Most importantly, it sells Slime Heroes, which are fantastic for their powerful stats and defensive capabilities. Always save some gems for these offers.
  • Legendary Heroes and Equipment: The shop sells legendary heroes for 3000 gems and legendary equipment for 3000 gems. It’s worth saving up for these, especially when they appear at a discount.
  • Decorations: These might seem minor, but they give permanent stat boosts and are a one-time purchase. They are worth picking up, especially from the Arena store.

Gold

Gold is for upgrading your heroes and your base stats. A good beginner tip is to invest all your gold into Attack and Attack%, and then into Critical Hit Rate and Critical Damage. You can add points to HP if you find your heroes are dying instantly, but Defense and Recovery are the least useful stats to upgrade.

The Wandering Merchant and Slimes

The Wandering Merchant is one of the most important daily activities in the game. It appears four times a day (usually around 5 AM, 11 AM, 5 PM, and 11 PM UTC) and stays for two hours. You’ll find it by tapping the compass icon during Adventure Mode and jumping between stages. Sometime people mention the stage they found them in chatroom.

The main reason to seek out the merchant is to buy Slime Heroes. They are considered must-haves for their powerful buffs, making them a great long-term investment.

A Final Note on Strategy

  • Attack is king. Many players find that building a team of aggressive, high-damage heroes is more effective than using a traditional Tank/Healer setup. Some units start battles with their skills ready to use, so experiment with different team compositions to see what works for you.

You now have the foundations to start building your fortress. The most important habit is checking the Wandering Merchant for Slimes, claiming your Arena rewards, and keeping those upgrades rolling. Good luck, Commander
